2. Materials Needed

  • Whiteboard or flipchart

  • Markers

  • Printed handouts (optional)

  • Internet-enabled phone/laptop (for optional research)

  • Notebooks for brainstorming

3. Lesson Breakdown

A. Icebreaker (10 minutes)

Activity: “Business from Nothing”
Ask participants:

“If I gave you R100 and told you to turn it into a business, what would you do?”
Let them share quick ideas. This sets the tone that great businesses can begin small.

B. Main Teaching (30 minutes)

Discuss Each Business Category:

1. πŸ§‘‍🏫 Tutoring

  • Teach what you already know (maths, English, science, life orientation, etc.)

  • You can tutor in-person or online

  • Start with one learner from your neighbourhood

  • Tools needed: knowledge, a quiet space, and maybe data for online sessions

  • Price Example: R50–R150/hour

🟩 Mini Activity:

Write down 2 subjects you were good at in school. Who can you help with that today?

2. πŸ’» Digital Services

  • Use your laptop or smartphone to offer services like:

    • Social media marketing for small businesses

    • Poster or flyer design using free tools like Canva

    • Copywriting (writing captions, bios, posts for others)

🟩 Mini Activity:

Open Canva on your phone. Try to design a birthday invite or event flyer in 10 minutes.

3. πŸš— Mobile Services

  • Take your skill to the customer:

    • Haircuts, nails, makeup, car wash, or food delivery

  • No shop needed—just basic tools and transport (even walking)

🟩 Example:

“Nomsa started washing cars outside the mall with only 1 bucket, 1 sponge, and some hustle. She now employs 2 friends.”

🟩 Mini Activity:

List 3 services you can offer from home or door-to-door.

4. πŸ’° Reselling

  • Buy affordable items in bulk and sell for a profit

    • Clothes from downtown Joburg

    • Sweets, snacks, perfumes, sunglasses

  • Use WhatsApp or Facebook Marketplace to promote

🟩 Mini Activity:

Find one item in your house you could resell. What’s your price?

5. πŸ“± Content Creation

  • Start a YouTube channel, podcast, or blog based on what you know or love

    • Cooking, fashion, tech, motivation, or reviews

  • Build an audience and earn from ads, sponsors, or sales

🟩 Tools needed:
Smartphone, internet, consistency, and creativity

🟩 Mini Activity:

What topic can you talk about for 5 minutes without notes? That could be your niche!

C. Group Discussion (10 minutes)

Ask:

  • Which idea spoke to you the most?

  • What’s stopping you from starting?

  • Who would support you if you started tomorrow?

D. Build an Action Plan (15 minutes)

Use the “Business Kickstart Template”:

Step Description
1. Idea (Write your chosen business idea)
2. Who needs it? (Who will pay for it?)
3. What do I need to start? (Tools, space, skills)
4. First 3 steps (Actions you’ll take this week)
5. Price (How much will you charge?)
6. Promotion (How will you tell people?)

4. Homework / Follow-Up

  • Choose one idea and test it within the next 7 days

  • Post it on social media and ask for feedback

  • Prepare to share your progress in the next session or group meeting

5. Encouragement & Final Quote

“You don’t need more money, you need more ideas. Use your hands, your mind, and your hustle to change your life.”

This Closing page wraps everything up with encouragement, reflection, and a call to action.

Your Journey Begins Now

Dear Future Entrepreneur,

If you’ve made it this far, it means you’re serious about changing your life. You’ve seen that you don’t need a big office, a fancy degree, or a bank loan to start a business. What you really need is an idea, the courage to begin, and the consistency to grow.

Remember, every successful business you admire today started as just an idea. Someone, somewhere, decided to act. That person can be you.

You already have what it takes:

  • A mind full of ideas

  • A heart full of passion

  • And now, the knowledge to begin

Don’t wait for someone to hire you. Hire yourself. Build something meaningful. Serve your community. Create jobs. Inspire others.

🌟 Final Reflection:

  • What is the one thing you’re going to do today to move forward?

  • Who will you tell about your idea?

  • What will your success story sound like a year from now?

The journey of a thousand steps starts with just one. Take that first step now. Your future is waiting.

Keep Rising. Keep Building. Keep Believing.
